Got stinknet?

The #1 threat to the Sonoran Desert lifestyle.

Who We Are:

Run by a husband and wife team: a local firefighter and a Sonoran Desert restoration ecologist specializing in invasive plant control - both experts in hazardous fuels reduction and creation of defensible space, with over 20 years of combined experience and a shared goal of protecting homes and the Sonoran Desert from hazardous fuels.

Traditional landscaping companies don’t have the same level of expertise about native plants, non-native invasive plants, and vegetation treatments from a fuels management, fire safety, and ecosystem health perspective.

Services

Invasive Plant Removal

Invasive plant removal service is focused on non-native grass and forb species that are both highly invasive and a fuel hazard, particularly stinknet, buffelgrass, fountaingrass, yellow bluestem, and similar species. Removing them from your property protects your home from unwanted hazardous fuels and prevents spread into our natural desert ecosystem.

Tree & Shrub Trimming

Tree and shrub trimming service includes professionally cutting and removing dead or overgrown branches, especially around the perimeter of your home to create defensible space and reduce the risk of fire spreading through the tree canopies.

Tree & Shrub Removal

Tree and shrub removal service includes complete removal of trees and shrubs (size limitations), especially around the perimeter of your home to create defensible space and includes removal of non-native, invasive species such as salt cedar, oleander, and African sumac.

Gutter Cleaning

Gutter cleaning service includes removal of dead leaves and other fine fuel debris which have the potential to catch on fire. Regular cleaning of gutters reduces fire hazard around the home.

Habitat Restoration

Habitat restoration service includes planting native plants, creating low-tech water harvesting and erosion control structures, and other measures to create wildlife-friendly and ecologically resilient spaces around your home without the hazardous fuels risk.

Why It Matters:

  • Climate change, increased global travel, and over a century of fire suppression in natural environments have created hotter and drier conditions, rapid spread of highly flammable invasive plant species, and higher risk of wildfire in urban and rural spaces.

  • Fire and invasive plant species can result in negative impacts to lives, property, and native plants and animals.

  • Homeowners insurance companies may cancel a policy or increase the premium based on presence of hazardous fuels around the home.

  • Presence of hazardous invasive plant species will drive down property values.

  • Pima County is embarking on renewed wildfire prevention efforts including incentives for homeowners to clear away hazardous fuels.
